  • July 17th, 2008 - Rob has left the building

  • Sad news today ... Rob Adams has left Obsidian Reign. Due to creative differences within the band, we thought it best to call it a day and begin a new musical chapter for all of us. We want to thank YOU, our friends and fans, for all the support you've shown us over the last 5-6 years. You've made it a great ride for us with lots of wonderful memories. We hope that you like the music we all create in the future, in whatever form it may take. I'm sure it will still kick ass. Thanks for everything.

  • February 26th, 2008 - New Shows Announced

  • Greetings all. There is some big news happening. We're pleased to announce that we are confirmed to play Nicky Zee's on March 14th & 15th but there will be something a little extra special about that weekend. We've been performing pretty consistently as Crushed Rock at Nick's for a few months but due to the overwhelming support we've had since last summer, the bar has decided to take a chance. This time on the Friday night (14th), like the old days, it's going to be a full Obsidian Reign show at Nicky Zee's for the first time since December of 2005! You heard it right. Friday nights seem to bring out more of the hardcore metalheads and the bar has heard you. The masses have spoken and we thank you for giving us the opportunity once again. You'll hear all the heaviest shit including our originals and your favourite covers like Slayer that we don't usually get a chance to whip out at Nick's. But don't forget about the Saturday night (15th) because that's going to be the Crushed Rock show with more of your hard rockin' and metal covers that everyone loves to drink to and sing along with. So come on out both nights with your fists in the air; downtown Fredericton is going to get its ass kicked again. It's going to be a wild weekend so don't miss the most intense metal band around these parts doing what we love to do ... put on a show and entertain all our friends. Shows start at 11:00PM both nights so don't be late.

  • February 26th, 2008 - The Cellar Show Review

  • Last weekend's show on Feb. 23rd saw Obsidian Reign once again playing for 2 and 1/2 hours of intense metal mayhem. It seems like these shows are just getting crazier. This time, in the smaller confines of The Cellar, just meant that the pit was going to be even more crowded together and we loved every second. There were more than a few bruises being nursed by the end of the night but nobody seemed to mind after such a memorable performance. The songs tore through the bar and the audience stayed with us for the whole evening. We made a lot of cool new friends and some die-hards even showed up again after seeing us the previous week at the Musiplex show. Don't let anyone tell you that the Fredericton metal scene is dead because the people in attendance on this night were ready to prove that wrong.

Special thanks to Pat and his staff at The Cellar for letting the music do the talking and allowing our fans to go nuts. There was moshing and headbanging and most surprising of all, a surprising amount of crowd surfing that was the icing on the cake. The staff had faith in us and in the audience to keep things under control and knew that everyone was there to have a great time and we all appreciated it. Thanks to all of you who were there to share it with us.

We have a video clip available that was taken from this performance. It's one of our newest songs entitled "Awaken and Arise" and it's a fast one to be sure. Check it out below:

  • February 18th, 2008 - Musiplex Show Review

  • Saturday night, Feb. 16th. The hype was that this was going to be one of the biggest metal events in the region ever. And after the smoke cleared, this Musiplex show lived up to the buzz.

The gig was to start at 9:00PM and after a few issues, the opening bands started a little late. Iron Fist and Hard Charger got going for a couple of short sets while the crowd got warmed up. Then finally, the time we'd all been waiting for. And judging by the audience reaction, we had a shitload of folks waiting for us to take to the big stage. There were many, many people there to see Obsidian Reign and we were ready to step up and deliver.

The performance started with an absolutely amazing video intro that was created by our graphics guy extraordinaire, Manny Peters. Projected onto the big screen over the stage, it was quite a sight to behold and the audience knew that this wasn't going to be your regular show. With a huge sound system and probably the coolest light show we've ever had, it was time to show Fredericton what technical, aggressive, thrash is all about. We hadn't played an all-ages show in over two years in the area and the under-19's were out in force waiting for see a real metal spectacle. And for those who were legal, the drinks were flowing and everybody was going wild.

After the video intro, we opened with one of our newest originals, "Deliver Me From This" and the show had begun. By the second song, "Persevere", the pit opened up the floor and it was pure fucking chaos for a full hour. And we could see the upper level of event room going crazy with those who wanted to keep on boozing while we worked our asses off for them. Song after song, things kept getting more and more intense and the energy level never died once until the crowd were a mess of sweat and adrenaline and we finished with Slayer's "Disciple". Moshing, stage-diving, screaming, and horns high in the air ... it was a truly memorable performance. There were nearly 200 people there and all we can say is "Wow". Thanks to all of you in the audience who made it our biggest show since the "Persevere" CD release and one of our favourite shows we've ever played.

Afterwards, we were talking to fans and friends alike, and everyone seemed to be blown away by what they'd just witnessed. That was our goal and fortunately, it was a huge success.

Next up were The Rocking Argentos who carried the momentum for the rest of the evening while we relaxed and rode out the high.

Here was the setlist and we were so psyched that the crowd were as out of control for our newer material as the older crowd favourites:

    Deliver Me From This
    Persevere
    Awaken and Arise
    The Hell You're In For
    Split the Enemy
    The Hand of Righteous Hate
    Requiem
    Divinity Cast Down
    Pathogenesis
    Another Day's Mourning
    Of Roses And Ruin
    Disciple: Slayer

Thanks to Lloyd and his staff at Musiplex for taking a chance on such a show; everyone was so professional toward us including Jeff (soundguy), Curtis (lights), the videographers and photographers, security, and bartenders. It was a pleasure. We hope to get some footage and photos up on this site ASAP because we know there were a lot of people who were documenting the performance. After the show, we were talking to everyone involved and Obsidian Reign has definitely been invited back. There's no doubt that we all want an event like this to happen again so keep your eyes open. If you missed this one, well it sucks to be you, but no excuses for next time.

Special thanks to Remy for making this thing happen. Even though we were all worried at various points through the process, it turned out to be one of the biggest local concerts in Fredericton history.

So for those of you who saw us last weekend and want an even bigger shot of Obsidian Reign, well get ready for this:
Next Saturday night, Feb. 23rd, it's going to be a full night (over 2 and 1/2 hours) of Obsidian Reign at The Cellar on the UNB Campus. It's 19+ ... sorry all-ages folks. Show starts at 11PM sharp and we're going until the bar kicks us all out! Cover is $5 so we hope to see lots of you there. Once again, let's unleash Hell.
